One of the top Australian heavyweight boxers, Bowie Tupou is a former New South Wales State Heavyweight Champion and WBO Africa Heavyweight titleholder. Born in the Kingdom of Tonga, his family moved to the suburb of Mount Druitt in Sydney when he was 11.
Bowie trained with Johnny Lewis, the most popular boxing coach in Australia. He made his professional debut in February 2006 and after just 3 matches, he already became the state heavyweight champion. During the same year, he moved to Los Angeles, California and started training at the famous Pound4Pound Gym. However, he didn’t gain much success in the U.S.A.
In 2013, Bowie returned to Australia and trained with Jeff Fenech. After sweeping his first three matches, he immediately gained major world ranking and won the WBO African heavyweight title. After losing the title to Joseph Parker in 2015, he lost another championship match against Justin Long in 2016. But Bowie won his last two matches in 2019 and he’s looking to continue the winning streak against Jacob Snowden in March 2020.
