Faiga Opelu is a Samoan Australian pro boxer from Camira, Queensland. As an orthodox heavyweight fighter, Faiga made his debut in March 2017 and went to win 5 straight matches. In less than three years, Faiga has already made his mark as one Australia’s fiercest competitors in the ring.
Growing up in New Zealand, Faiga looked up to Samoan-born and former New Zealand professional boxer, David Tua, but it is his grandfather, who boxed back in Samoa, who is his real inspiration. Faiga’s grandfather has inspired him to dream big and he now has his sight set on becoming a world champion.
Faiga has only lost once in his 14 matches since his debut and won via KO 10 times. Last November, 2019, Faiga defeated Kris Terzievski with a Technical Knockout and won his first belt, the vacant Australian Heavyweight Championship. On his next fight the following month, Faiga floored Hunter Sam during the third round, leaving no doubt to everyone that he is a heavyweight force to reckon with in the ring.
